The boring but important bit

Privacy policy.

How we look after your information. In plain English.

Draft for review. Please check this against how the app actually stores and uses data before it goes live.

Who we are

Shag a Fatty (“we”, “us”) runs shagafatty.com and the Shag a Fatty app, a dating service for adults aged 18 and over. We are the data controller for the personal information you give us.

What we collect

  • Account details: your name or username, email address, date of birth, gender and who you’re looking for.
  • Profile details: photos, bio, interests and your approximate location (town or postcode area).
  • Messages and activity: likes, matches and messages between members, so the service works.
  • Payment details: if you’re a male member paying the yearly fee, payments are handled by our payment provider. We don’t store full card numbers.
  • Technical data: device, browser, IP address and cookies used to keep you logged in and keep the site secure.

How we use it

  • To create and run your account and show you to other members.
  • To suggest matches near you.
  • To take the yearly payment for male members.
  • To keep members safe, including spotting fake profiles and abuse.
  • To send account emails. Marketing emails only if you agree, and you can opt out any time.

Sensitive information

Using a dating service can reveal information about your sex life or sexual orientation. We only use this to provide the service you asked for, with your explicit consent, and you can delete it at any time.

Who we share it with

Other members see your profile. We use trusted providers for hosting, payments and email, who process data on our instructions. We never sell your data and we never post anything on your behalf.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is open. If you delete your account we remove your profile straight away and delete the rest within a reasonable period, unless we must keep something by law.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct, download or delete your data, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

Cookies

We use essential cookies to run the site and keep you logged in, and optional analytics cookies only if you allow them.

Contact

For anything about your data, contact us through the app or at the email address shown in your account settings.
